Apricots are full of beta-carotene, an antioxidant that colours carrots orange. Apricots have on average 25 times more beta-carotene than other fruit. Beta-carotene helps the skin to protect itself from the harmful effects of sunlight.
Beta-caroteen is partly converted in the body to vitamin A and this vitamin is necessary to have good eyesight.
Scientific research supports that:
The Betacarotene in apricots may support protection from sunlight
Antioxidants inhibit oxidative stress. Oxidative stress occurs when there are to many free radicals present in your body. Free radicals are formed in the body due to stress, fatigue, air pollution, smoking, alcohol and medicine use.
When free radicals are present in your body for long periods of time they can damage your body. Antioxidants make free radicals harmless, which lowers the levels of oxidative stress.
